Senlis Cathedral
A must-see building in the region
In the heart of Senlis, in the Oise department, the Gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame de Senlis boasts a rather unusual record: it is one of the smallest cathedrals in France (76 metres long and 24 metres high). But that in no way detracts from its beauty!
Evolving Gothic architecture
Senlis cathedral was built between the twelfth and fourteenth centuries. This construction, spread over four centuries, gave it one of its main characteristics: a Gothic style that evolved from primitive to radiant.
Here's what you can admire when you visit Senlis Cathedral:
- A 12th-century portal of the Virgin Mary
- A south tower with a complete 12th-century bell tower
- Transept facades in late Gothic style
- A large organ listed as a Historic Monument
- Jesus among the Doctors, a painting by the famous French painter Georges Lallemant (1575-1636)
