Le Cachot
An exceptional place which is at the same time a tavern, an inn, a Roman cellar and a 12th century museum. Since 2009, this cultural and historical place has been promoting a Roman heritage with the two archaeological treasures found on the premises.
The old town
The opportunity to discover an admirable architectural heritage where you will find small cobbled streets, medieval half-timbered houses, Gallo-Roman ruins, beautiful small authentic shops.
Notre-Dame Cathedral
Built between the 12th and 13th centuries, it is the flagship monument of the Sensilian city. With its flamboyant facades, its portal of the Virgin, its southern tower, its masterpieces of Gothic architecture, this cathedral is one of the most beautiful in France.
The Museum of Art and Archaeology
Located in the historic centre of the town, in the former episcopal palace, it houses an important collection of regional archaeology with more than 200 Gallo-Roman ex-votos, sculptures from the Middle Ages and paintings from the 17th to the 20th century.
The Royal Castle of Senlis and the Saint-Maurice priory
Dating back to the Merovingian period, it was the place of election of Hugues Capet in 987 and was rebuilt in 1130 under Louis le Gros. The Saint-Denis chapel and the main building were redesigned several times until the 16th century. The castle has seen many kings pass through (Louis IX, Charles V, François I) and several of its buildings were demolished. Its ruins were bought by the town in 1956.
The Museum of Venery
Listed as a historical monument and located in the park of the Royal Castle, the museum evokes the art and history of hunting with hounds through numerous paintings.
Saint-Pierre Church
Built between the 11th and 16th centuries, it is one of the oldest churches in Senlis. After a complete renovation from 2009 to 2017, the former Saint-Pierre Church is now used as a multipurpose cultural space.
The Spahis Museum
Installed in the entrance of the Château Royal since 1991, this military museum is dedicated to the Spahis cavalry corps. You will find uniforms, weapons, pennants, personal souvenirs and various documents, photographs, drawings, engravings as well as paintings that trace the history of the Spahis.
