Strolling through the heart of the Green Meridian
Are you passing through the Oise region and looking for a unique outing?
The *Méridienne Verte* (Green Meridian) spans 1,200 km across France, passing through 337 communes, 20 departments, and 8 regions.
It offers a unique thread to follow while exploring the area.
The *Méridienne Verte* marks the Paris Meridian, an imaginary line connecting Dunkirk to Barcelona via the capital.
The project was conceived by architect Paul Chemetov to celebrate the year 2000.
To mark the occasion, trees were planted along its route across France, from village to village.
Before the adoption of the Greenwich Meridian, the Paris Meridian served as a key reference point for French sailors.
In the Oise department, the *Méridienne Verte* passes through numerous rural communes.
These include Paillart, Breteuil, Beauvoir, Bonvillers, Campremy, Wavignies, Thieux, Bucamps, and Boran-sur-Oise.
Today, various markers and plantings commemorate the path of the meridian.
At Paillart, the route crosses the Noye Valley, while at Beauvoir, it intersects with the GR 124 hiking trail a treat for walking enthusiasts.
The Hez-Froidmont state forest is a highlight of the route.
Located about twenty kilometers from Beauvais, this 2,800-hectare woodland features a mix of plateaus, valleys, and forests of oak and beech.
A 6 km trail starting from the "Lieutenant" forest lodge allows visitors to explore the *Méridienne Verte*.
It also leads to the remains of the Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde convent and the Étang de la Garde pond.
After a day exploring the trails of the Méridienne Verte, the Logis Clermotel hotel and restaurant makes for a convenient base from which to discover the region.
